Natural diamonds in an unreal world

Diamond Certification

Whilst the acquisition of diamond engagement rings and other pieces of diamond jewellery is an important expression ofDiamond Dossier Report love or accomplishment, it also represents a major investment in time, energy and money. We believe you need and deserve to feel confident in the integrity of what you've acquired. After all, whilst two gems may look identical to the untrained eye, they may be quite different in quality...and worlds apart in value.

Ten years ago, only diamond dealers used diamond grading reports. Nowadays, consumers are more educated, aware and conscious about the products they purchase. A consumer seeking an explanation why two diamonds which look the same is not satsfied with being told that one is a "better" diamond - they will, rightly so, want to know WHY it is better, and what characteristics differentiate the two stones.

The best way - and in our opinion, the ONLY way - to ensure this is to purchase certified diamonds. Typically, in the UK, there is no 'industry standard' for diamond certification, therefore making it even more important.

All diamond engagement rings from our 'Create Your Diamond Ring' section, plus diamond engagement rings and higher value items of diamond jewellery from our 'Diamond Gift Boutique' are accompanied by the diamond's original and unique grading certificate. For multi-stone items of diamond jewellery from our Diamond Gift Boutique such as diamond bracelets and diamond eternity rings, for example, we provide a DeJoria Certificate of Authenticity which confirms the combined diamond carat weight and diamond quality for your peace of mind in the quality of your diamond jewellery purchase.

A diamond certificate is a detailed report created by an expert gemmologist who has scrutinsed the diamond and placed it under a microscope to analyse its dimensions, clarity, cut, colour, finish, symmetry and other characteristics. For more information on this, please visit our education page.

There are a number of diamond laboratories around the world, some more reputable than others. We work with some of the most respected and renowned laboratories, providing our valued customers with complete peace of mind that they have purchased the genuine article. These laboratories are the GIA (Gemological Institute of America), IGI (International Gemmological Institute), AGS (American Gem Society), HRD (Hode Raad van Antwerpen) and EGL (European Gemological Laboratory).

You should note that all diamond certificates should be treated with the same care and safety as insurance policies, property deeds and other important documentation.

GIA (GEMOLOGICAL INSTITUTE OF AMERICA)
- www.gia.edu
GIA diamond laboratory logo
We work with the GIA as it is one of the most respected and trusted diamond laboratories in the world. It is known for having the most strict, consistent and unbiased systems for grading diamonds. Diamonds that are accompanied by these grading reports are the most highly valued in the industry, as their quality is considered guaranteed. Indeed, it was the GIA who, over 70 years ago, founded the international diamond grading system which is used across the world today. The GIA provides 2 different types of diamond certificate;

GIA Diamond Dossier - This is a compact grading report issued for diamonds weighing less than one carat. The most advanced technology available is used to assess the authenticity and quality of your diamond. The dossier includes the GIA's authoritative analysis of your diamond's 4Cs - Cut, Carat, Colour and Clarity. Plus, as an added security benefit, the diamond bears the microscopic laser inscription of the Laser Inscription on Diamond Imagedossier's identification number, connecting your diamond with your report.

GIA Diamond Grading Report - This is considered by fine jewellers and international auction houses as being the world's premier gemmological credential. A report is issued for diamonds of one carat upwards, of all shapes, and provides the most comprehensive analysis of a diamond's quality. As well as outlining your diamonds 4Cs, it also provides a diagram of your diamonds clarity characteristics. This certificate number of the GIA diamond grading report is NOT necessarily microscopically laser inscribed into the girdle of the diamond as it is with the diamond dossier, but this is something that we are able to do for you if you so wish, at no additional charge.

On January 1st 2006, GIA announced the introduction of its Diamond Cut Grading System for brilliant cut round diamonds. Over the course of a 15 year research project, GIA researchers performed extensive computer modelling of brilliant round diamonds and conducted more than 70,000 observations on actual stones to validate the science. This system can now predict the cut grade for more than 38.5 million proportion sets. The result is a comprehensive Cut Grading System that accurately reflects all the critical cut factors of a brilliant round cut diamond. GIA's Diamond Cut Grading System assesses a diamond's overall appearance by using computer modelling along with other algorithms to predict levels of brightness, fire and scintillation (sparkle and pattern), which indicate how well a diamond's proportions work together to return white and coloured light to an observer, whilst taking into account other important factors such as design (durability and over-weight) and craftsmanship (symmetry and polish).
