Natural diamonds in an unreal world

Choosing Your Diamond Ring

All being well, your partner will be wearing her diamond engagement ring for the rest of her life, so you need to ensure that you make the right decision. The following 5 steps may help you in your search for the perfect diamond engagement ring.

1 - DECIDE ON THE STYLE OF DIAMOND RNG
The best way to establsh what style of diamond engagement ring she prefers is to simply ask her friends and/or her mother. Not only should they be able to tell you whether she prefers DeJoria Diamond Engagement Ringssolitaire diamond engagement rings, multi-stone diamond engagement rings or 3 stone diamond rings, for example, but they may also be able to tell you if she prefers 950 platinum, 18kt white gold, 18kt yellow gold or 18kt rose gold. For more information on these metals, visit our precious metals page. You may, of course, be able to establish this yourself by simply noticing the type of jewellery she already wears.

When considering the type of metal for your diamond ring, you should take note of the following.

950 Platinum - This is the strongest and the most pure of all precious metals used in diamond jewellery and is rarer than other precious metals. It will not tarnish over time and, due to its durability, provides the most secure settings for diamonds. Platinum is actually 95% pure platinum, which is why you hear people talk about "950 platinum". As a result of all this, platinum does command a premium price over 18kt white or yellow gold.

18kt White Gold / 18kt Yellow Gold / 18kt Rose Gold - These golds are composed of 75% gold and 25% metal alloys to give it strength for the diamond setting. They are softer metals than platinum and, therefore, will slightly tarnish over time. Growing in popularity - and featured on our site - are many of our solitaire diamond engagement rings in 18kt yellow gold with a platinum head - this combines both a traditional look and an extremely secure setting for the diamond. As for18kt rose gold, this has a reddish tint, and is increasing in popularity all the time.

2 - DECIDE ON YOUR BUDGET
It is a commonly held belief that a man should spend the equivalent of two months salary on his partners diamond engagement ring. Whilst some people find this to be a useful guideline, we believe that, above all, a diamond engagement ring is a token of love between two people and this emotional purchase should not be subject to any hard and fast rules. The main consideration is that you are comfortable with what you are spending and once you have decided on your budget, stick to it. And remember, diamond engagement rings are not all about the size of the diamond - smaller diamonds of higher quality will almost always provide more brilliance and life than larger diamonds of lesser quality. For more information on this, visit our Education page.

3 - DO YOUR RESEARCH
When making any high value purchase, whether it be a new car or a diamond engagement ring, it is important that you do some thorough research. We aim to provide our visitors with as much information as possible so they can make an informed decision. When looking at various options available to you, always remember that you should compare like-with-like in terms of the quality of the diamond, the diamond grading laboratory and the value of any supporting documentation that accompanies the diamond engagement ring - you need to make sure you know what you are buying, and any supporting documentation is invaluable as it is your guarantee of quality. After all, would you buy a new car without a warranty booklet? We provide not only a unique and original diamond certificate with all our diamond engagement rings, but also an independent insurance valuation dossier. As with anything, the old adage of 'you get what you pay for' applies - if you are being offered what you think is a high quality item for a cheap price, there is always a reason for it, so check it out.

Remember, rare, excellent cut, natural and untreated diamonds never sell at large discounts. If the price seems "too good to be true", then there is a reason for it, and is probably due to the fact that it has at least one of the following value-destroying flaws;

- The diamond is supplied without a full diamond grading certificate.
- The diamond's cut proportions are poor.
- The diamond is not natural (ie heat and clarity enhanced or even man made).
- The girdle has not polished or faceted.
- The diamond has extra facets that should not be there (often added to cut away flaws).
- The diamond has flourescence when exposed to UV light.
There are some excellent information pages on our site which you should visit as part of your education process - these include the Glossary, Price Comparisons, Education, Conflict Free Diamonds and Frequently Asked Questions pages.
4 - ESTABLISH THE RING SIZE YOU REQUIRE
Whilst trying to do this in secret might sound like a daunting task, it is really quite straightforward. If you visit our Ring Size Help page, this will provide you with everything you need.
5 - MAKE YOUR PURCHASE
You are now ready to browse our website and make your selection, confident in the knowledge that you have done your research thoroughly.
