More Information About Emerald Cut Diamond Rings

Emerald cut diamond rings are slightly different to all other shapes of diamonds because these shapes of diamonds are not specifically cut to maximise their sparkle.

Rectangular in shape, emerald cut diamonds have fewer facets (normally around 48-50 in number) than their round and princess cut diamond engagement ring counterparts and are 'step-cut'. Therefore, rather than displaying normal diamond brilliance, emerald cut diamonds display longer flashes of brilliance from their wide open surfaces. The 'table' of emerald cut diamonds - the upper surface when you are looking down at solitaire emerald cut diamond rings on the finger - is large, and it is possible to see all the way through these diamonds all the way to the bottom tip. As a result, by their very nature, emerald cut diamonds are more transparent than all other shapes of diamonds, and so it is especially important for consumers to, wherever possible, realise the importance of diamond clarity when making their purchase of diamond engagement rings. As a general rule, consumers should typically look for emerald cut diamonds with clarity grade of VS2 or above, as this will signify that the emerald cut diamonds will not have any visible inclusions to the naked eye. At lower clarity grades of SI1 or SI2, for example, inclusions may be possible in emerald cut diamonds.

Many designs of emerald cut diamond rings are versatile enough to accommodate other shapes of diamonds such as rectangular radiant cut diamonds, for example, although this is generally confined to those designs which use four claw setting arrangements.
