Diamonds & Diamond Carat Weight
Posted By Richard Preece

It is ocasionally useful to get an idea of the weight of a diamond before you buy it, so you can get an idea of how the weight will feel on your finger.

However, speak to most jewellers about diamond weight and they`ll talk to you about "carats" of diamonds. However, this doesn`t really mean much in terms of a layman`s measurements.

In a nutshell, one carat is the equivalent of 0.2 grams. Therefore, a 5 carat diamond will weight 1 gram, whilst a half carat diamonds (0.50ct) will weight 0.1 grams.

How useful is this? Well, all jewellers should be able to tell you how much the precious metal ring shank weighs, so simply add on the weight of the diamond to give you the total weight of the diamond ring.

Platinum will weigh more than all the other precious metals. Therefore, it is more expensive!
