Out With The Old And In With The New Wedding Traditions
Posted By Richard Preece

As bastions of the modern diamond jewellery industry, Dejoria’s stylists and buyers come across a great deal of nuptial habits, wants and traditions. Here are a just some of the hits we think make up the perfect modern wedding!

Paying the Way...
The trend for marriage is becoming increasingly popular with couples in their mid-thirties, as opposed to the younger marrying couples of previous generations. When once the bride’s father would stoically part with the pennies to fund a wedding, modern couples are finding themselves affluent enough to pay for their own celebrations (including gorgeous diamond wedding rings, that DJ the in-laws will hate and, of course, a few extra diamonds for the honeymoon!)

The Shackles of Stress...
There’s simply a lot more freedom to choose the manner and mode by which couples marry, these days. We’ve all seen Four Weddings and a Funeral – the dress stress, the catering dramas! Perhaps couples only twenty years ago would have been ridiculed for eloping or planning a small but extravagant ceremony abroad (when they know Uncle Geoff hates to fly!) Marriage has almost reverted to a very personal celebration, one where all and sundry needn’t expect an invite and nuptial moments are personal and sentimentally laden.

Marks of Commitment...
Gold wedding rings, diamond wedding rings, wedding earrings, a ring for him but not for her or vice versa. Happily, we meet all kinds of marrying couples, many of whom are marking their commitment with alternative jewellery that suits their lifestyle (after all, a livestock veterinarian probably shouldn’t wear a prominent diamond ring!)
